Specific information
Piazza Carlo Cattaneo is one of the historic squares located in the heart of the city center. The square is known for its 16th-century fountain, designed by Giovanni da Udine, which adds a touch of Renaissance elegance to the surrounding area.
Historically, Piazza Cattaneo was known as “Piazza degli Ebrei” (Jewish Square) because it housed the local synagogue, located in a courtyard surrounded by houses. During World War I and the Austro-German occupation, it was used as a horse shelter and suffered severe damage before being demolished.
The square is surrounded by historic buildings, some dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries. One building features a façade characterized by a series of four arches on the ground floor that define an external portico overlooking the square.
