Specific information
The Friulian Prephilatelic Museum, inaugurated in 2018, houses precious documents and testimonies of the postal history of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, from the pre-philatelic period—that is, before the introduction of stamps—to the birth of the modern postal system.
Through letters, stamps, seals, maps, and period instruments, the museum recounts the evolution of communications and the central role of San Daniele del Friuli as a cultural and administrative hub of the region, offering visitors a unique perspective on the past.
The museum is housed within the Scuola Italiana Amanuensi (Italian School of Amanuensis), where visitors can consult original manuscripts and printed documents, many of which have been digitized in a dedicated database. The visit allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of postal services and the culture of writing, exploring curiosities, instruments, and testimonies that recount the communications of the past.
