Teobaldo Ciconi (1824–1863), one of the most famous Italian playwrights of the 19th century, was born in this palace. At a very young age, he had his first dramatic works, Il mussulmano and Rondello e il califfo, performed in San Daniele. A friend of Ippolito Nievo and a key figure in the cultural life of the Risorgimento, he achieved national fame with Pecorelle smarrite, performed in Italy’s major theaters. A modern and innovative playwright, he worked successfully between Milan and Turin, leaving a significant mark on the history of Italian theater. San Daniele del Friuli renewed his memory in 2013, 150 years after his death, with cultural initiatives and a dedicated exhibition.
The street leading to the Church of the Madonna di Strada and the town theater on Via Cesare Battisti are named after him.
