The San Martino Museum was established in the 1990s as part of a project to restore and showcase the western *barchessa* (farm building) of Villa Kechler in San Martino di Codroipo, intended to house the extensive collection of vintage carriages belonging to Antonio Lauda, which had been acquired in 1997. Originally built in the 19th century and positioned at a right angle to the villa’s main residence, the western *barchessa* served as a silk-spinning mill and a stable for Carlo Kechler’s horses during the first half of the 20th century. It has served as a museum since 2001.
