Formed approximately 10,000 years ago during the retreat of the glaciers, Lake Cornino captivates visitors with the extraordinary clarity of its waters. This unique phenomenon is due to underground water circulation that maintains a constant temperature between 9 and 11°C year-round.
Approximately 140 meters long and with a maximum depth of 8 meters, the lake is distinguished by the absence of visible inlets and outlets, creating a natural spectacle of pure crystalline clarity.
Flora and Fauna: A Paradise of Biodiversity
The reserve is a true paradise for biodiversity lovers, home to a vast array of plant and animal species. The unique climatic conditions favor the development of xerophilous vegetation (adapted to arid environments) on rocks and scree, while the banks of the Tagliamento River are characterized by lush floodplain vegetation.
The true star of the reserve is the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), a majestic vulture and the subject of a major international conservation project. Watching its elegant flight across the sky is an unforgettable experience for every visitor.
