Specific information
The Loggia represents one of the most significant works of the 15th century. Its reconstruction began in 1415, when the Community decided to renovate the existing building, located on the same site, which was now considered outdated both in terms of style and size.
The first stone was laid on July 3, 1415. However, on the night of July 14–15, the work still in progress was destroyed by the Varmo family and their allies, as part of the conspiracy against San Daniele. Despite these events and the outbreak of war between Venice and the Patriarchate, construction of the Loggia continued without any permanent interruptions.
Once completed, the Loggia was inaugurated and became the prestigious seat of the “judgments” and “terminations” of the Magnifica Comunità, a role it maintained until the end of the 19th century. With the annexation to Italy, the municipal headquarters was moved to the building on Via Garibaldi.
The current Piasentina stone flooring dates back to 1841, a transformation carried out to facilitate the grain market (cereals and grains for both human and livestock consumption).
